The stone on display for sale is a double reflective natural sapphire that shows, depending on the angle from which it is viewed, blue or dark purple colors. It is a beautifully cut stone originating in Sri Lanka.
All corundum gemstones are known under the name of sapphire with the only exception of the ruby red variant which is called ruby. But the name sapphire is very widespread, for blue precious stones, but this blue should not be understood as the color of the clear sky, but all shades of blue up to very dark blue and even black.
Sapphire is found in a wide range of colors and shades of colors.
Sapphire is a mineral that occurs in the form of Al2O3 single crystals. The color is determined by impurities such as Fe2+, Fe3+, Cr3+, Ti4+ or V4+.
It has a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale, after diamond.
