Ametrine is a variety of quartz, which is also called tristine, bolivianite or amecithrine.

The name of the mineral comes from the names of the 2 semi-precious stones of which it is composed: Amethyst + Citrine = Ametrine.

The chemical formula of ametrine is: SiO 2 + Fe. Ametrine has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale.

In its natural state, ametrine is transparent, yellow-violet, orange-violet, purple with small golden spots, brownish-violet. The luster of ametrine is glassy or greasy.

This semi-precious stone is found in: Bolivia, USA, Mozambique and South Africa.
