Details:

This natural sapphire, having a cushion shape, impresses with its distinctive beauty and perfect dimensions of 7.40 x 5.20 mm. Its deep and vibrant blue colour lends an aura of elegance and sophistication. With a respectable weight of 1.60 carats, this gemstone exudes presence.

However, it is important to note the clarity of the stone, which shows visible inclusions and fractures. These characteristics affect the brilliance of the stone but can add uniqueness and authenticity to the stone, giving it a natural charm.

The stone has undergone heat treatment, a common practice in the gemstone industry to enhance colour and clarity. Its Sri Lankan origin adds a touch of exoticism and value, as this region is known for producing gemstones of the highest quality. This natural sapphire is not only a jewel but also an expression of its unique nature and the human craftsmanship that transformed it into a gemstone.

Under the name sapphire are known all corundum gemstones, with the sole exception of the ruby red variant, which is called ruby. However, the name sapphire is very common for blue gemstones, but this blue should not be understood as the colour of a clear sky but as all shades of blue up to very dark blue and even black. Sapphire is found in a wide range of colours and shades. Sapphire is a mineral that occurs as Al2O3 single crystals. The colour is determined by impurities such as Fe2+, Fe3+, Cr3+, Ti4+, or V4+. It has a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale, after diamond. The rocks where sapphires have been found are called pegmatites, which, through erosion processes, have been transported and deposited in alluvium in river beds. The most important countries in sapphire production are Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon), India, and more recently, the USA, Australia and Nigeria.
